Momma's Boy

No Money, No job, No house, no car,
No Sun, No moon, No sky, or No stars.

No ups, No downs, No rights,  or No wrongs,
No Letters, No cards, No poem, or No songs.

No school, No church, Nowhere and No place,
No tears, No thoughts, No smiles on No face.

No friends, No wife, No nephews, and No Nieces,
No deacon, No Ushers, not even a pastor who preaches.

And No father, No uncles, No sisters, or No brothers
Could ever replace what I lost... when I lost my Mother.

  1. I wrote this poem the night before we were going to take my mother off of the breathing machine. I could not sleep and was up around 2am. I could not sleep thinking that night would be the last night that I had with my mother. Great for us when we removed the breathing tube she began to breathe on her own. But the very next morning she after being transported to Hospice she began to breathe rapidly and we were told that she was beginning the process of dying. My stepfather and I played music, sung to her, and read the Bible. So bad I wanted to read this poem but could not pull myself to do because I thought it would scare her by putting death into her mind. Unfortunately that same day she passed. And so bad I wished I would have read it. And on the day of her funeral I wanted to read it but did not know if I would have the strength so we came up with the idea of printing it on the program. Finally the day I was leaving to come back to Athens I read it to her... at her grave and now... I'm saying to you. I miss my mother. And that... will never change. As always thank you for taking the time.

  3. Stephen I love your poem and it was very emotional. I also lost a dear person to me from cancer. It was a devastating roller coaster because it was nothing I can do to stop it. My grandfather was everything to me and to watch him die was a nightmare. I have a lot of nights when I just want to call him but I can't. Stephen I pray God gives you strength through this difficult time.

  7. I loved the poem. You could really feel your emotion in it. Definitely a tear jerker. I'm glad you decided to share it. Wish your mom could've gotten a chance to hear it. You can genuinely tell how much you loved her just by reading it.
